Social Talk. Text 168.

SS - Staf surveillance department presentation.

In order not to be downsized department, me, as head of it, was intrusted a task of representing what we actually do, yet not in the way presentations should be done, nor in the way things really are in our department. Presentation ought to aim only one target - to stay alive.

My team has been studying this issue for almost ten minutes, and came to a conclusion that we are not the ones to be fired due to numerous video files we possess. Would you like to see men in back room playing poker? Or chief financial officer holding a party in the headquarters every weekend?

Of course that data is to be used only as plan B, but it's better to be prepared. With all above mentioned in my mind, I started to write my actual presentation text.

Firstly I would mention how we improve quality of services our company provides by monitoring all our workers online activity in popular social networks, such as editing posts in nosebook and banning giggles in snicker. Then I'd say something about how we build inter workers relationship, and then I would gently hint about surveillance cameras all over the place.

If this doesn't work, I will go straight to the plan B. With my text finished and reread several times, I headed to the chief executive to discuss which department to abolish.

Social Talk. Text 167.

Speedom off reech total shock.

Writing a social talk we must use only valid grammar, but what if we didn't? Lets try to change it a bit.

We speak not must Russian here in. It's understandable, or this one.. Not should information our include personal speech.

Sounds like gibberish isn't it? That rule (of things affected by rules) applies to virtually everything, excluding, perhaps, only chaos theory. Yet some people try to implement chaos in art, in attempts to create something new using their vision - something that's now called - modern art.

Here in NewTone we're not so often allowed to free our minds completely, and that's a good way to study I must admit, but since we're having our last class of the "Freedom of speech week", lets try a bit of impromptu. Brace yourself, here it goes.

Study had about great, little would I verse, I know it be.
The badly words to lines are not, but shuffled tell about.
We've best to got it seems, in grammar's me and our study it.
Go the day insane lets not, is nuts, but lets go today.

(correct variant)
Little verse about study would be great, I know, I had it.
But the lines are shuffled badly, not to tell about words.
Grammar's best in our study, and it seems to me, we've got it.
But today is not the day, lets go nuts, lets go insane!

Social Talk. Text 166.

One week in the head hunting agency.

Matt's younger brother Stanley, who recently returned from his seemed to be endless mission in Bolivia, was hardly employed, constantly unsatisfied with himself type of guy, whose occasional moan would make anybody go nuts. So when his niece, Diana, offered him to try out his skills in head hunting, he willingly accepted the vacant "job shadowing" place in Ryan O Mars enterprise.

The next day he departed to his new work, and returned only in nine days time. Full of energy, ready to conquer the world and make around the globe voyage at the same time. His first phrase was: - I'm in. - and the second one - Give me something to eat. I'm starving.

After double supper he finally began to talk.

The first head was just marvellous, - he told. - A genius head whose IQ is over two hundred with knowledge of astrophysics was required in two days. We dashed through the major universities and schools for gifted, but my sudden thought helped us to do all in time. We cornered two individuals within given scope in the online game when they were cheating, and making in-game gold out of thin air.

The second task was something extraordinary. Find a head, task stated, which doesn't want to be found and seeks the truth only in reflections. I was perplexed yet thrilled, but having known nothing about this particular head just followed my team leader into depth of unknown.

His phone rang, and Stanley, giving it a tiny glance, raced to the front door. By the time he reached the pavement, black sport car stopped near him.

My family is in a bit of a shock right now, but me, Diana Longster, knows everything about that organization. Ryan is my close friend, and I believe that I entrusted my uncle in the right hands. After all it's the best job ever.

(Task: write mission statement for your imaginary enterprise)

The task of developing a mission statement for Ryan O Mars Head Hunting agency turned out to be the most difficult yet, so Diana, being a very reasonable person, and having tried everything she could, went to bed with feelings of bitter despair circling in her mind.

Subconscious is very powerful thing, - she thought - maybe it will do the compilation of the facts I know, and produce me a well crafted statement? After ten minutes of annoying tumbling in the bed, she whispered some fancy economic term and felt asleep.

Waking up at six o'clock the first thing she did was writing down that sleepy nonsense her head was still digesting in the state of morning trance. Bur when Diana returned from the shower with her cup of coffee and favorite strawberry bagel from Nick's best bakery, early note instantly caught her attention.

Grayish, pencil written, letters were jumping out from the scrap of DreamWriter sticker, trying to convey it's message, which was - "There are no indispensable people."
Thought, bright a as day, raced though her mind - I knew I can make it! It's definitely the one I've been looking for.

Screaming and yelling shouts of joy she dashed to her car in the slippers and bathrobe and in several minutes was working at her office computer with all templates of master slogan she has been developing for over a month now. But sudden allarm made her raise her head. Intuitively pulling her hand she reached round and buzzing object which turned to be her bed table alarm clock.. she woke up instantly, but the answer has been already found.

Social Talk. Text 164.

(Task: Fill out form.)

Demand.

In modern world, headhunting is quite in demand due to constant lack of highly qualified people, but in ancient times it was a little bit different way to spend time.

Potential customers / audience

Today it can be any company, or individual, who wants to get full or part time employee with required skill set. Yet back then it was a person who'd like to have a specific head or head set.

Price

That's the most interesting part. Taking headhunting requests we try to maximize your profit, trying to deliver as many candidates data as we can, if not specified otherwise. Thus our expences can be doubled or even tripled depending on circumstances we'd encounter. As for the past usage of headhunting services - it was one silver coin per head.

Target group

Market dictates it's rules - so the one asking for a favour is our target group. You're five and want to get a lawyer to sue your kindergarten friend? We're at your service. You're ninety nine and want to find yourself a partner for the rest of your days? We're on it. There is no limits for our hunting.
Yet, as far as we aware, previously it was only elite who had a chance to be a target. I mean target group.

Your product's benefits (UPSs)

We claim that we can bring any person to your office within certain time frame, hence we have widest possible UPS - every single human falling in that category. I must add that comparing to past UPS quantity, which has been always singular, namely head, modern headhunting is a huge step forward.

Social Talk. Text 163.

(Task: What if my business plan worked out?)

My business plan task was fulfilled with one idea in mind, we need heads, and if that presentation tend to be funny and more visual, this text is about to be as serious as it could be.

While head-hunting term could be understood differently, what it really means is how it literally being pronounced. Modern world consists of millions of companies who would give a lot to acquire smart person who is pro and can increase revenue of an enterprise. That's how hiring agencies appeared, and proved themselves to be a very viable business.

The head is the main goal of venture called hunting. Agency not just places ads and commercials with work offers, but actually huts every single men in the scope required. Good times, when companies could have chosen top dogs out of hundreds applied, are gone, and contemporary world compels us to find new ways of hiring, of actual hunting for the personnel in the city jungles.

You can hire a dozen, a hundred workers, but certain strategies had proven that a sole human could triple your company profit in a year. And my agency would have found this human, if it were founded under my meticulous supervision.

What does it show, this, so called, modern hiring policy? That me, as experienced professional, will be able to find appropriate job in the matter of days. And the most important that now it's me who picks the company, from now on and forever.

Social Talk. Text 161.

If I were to buy a franchise, what would it be?

In my mind, there is a voice -
I need franchise, I need a choice.
To make a business of my own,
and to have moneys constant flow.

But it is hard for me to have,
a weapon business - selling planes.
And neither of the countries will,
give me the power to be king.

So is there single one for me?
A dream franchise, are you to be?
Or maybe printing money is?
I have been looking it for years.

I guess that knowledge mine is weak,
should have predicted it, I think.
Where is the one I'm craving for?
Does it stand behind the door?

Door slams open - postman's here.
There's recruitment letter sir!
I guess my dreams come to an end.
Army's waiting - that's dead end.

Social Talk. Text 160.

Describe pros and cons of becoming an entrepreneur.

I'm working nine to five, but my friend are all just fine.
They are bosses, not like me - mere cleaner on the street.
Roy has car-sale and scrap yard, he's best dream - is Cadillac.
Mandy, Roys young sister's geek - has her own pink / blond boutique.
And the oldest, fatty boy, has a bar with vast deploy.

They have cars, a house, flat. All they may have wanted yet.
Suddenly - a brightest flash. I'm not worse then them. Not yet.
Could it be so that my dream - "to have streets just nice and clean",
be implanted in this town, with the help of my own mind?
Would I dare to take a risk, starting "Little Ryan's clean"?

This would be the mightiest firm, holding business of new form.
Clean with robots and so on, so that people stayed at home.
No necessity at all, do the meenest job of all.
Think in future I would be.. CEO or executive.
And my old and dearest friends are allowed to be right hands.

Dreaming of the place I'll live, I forgot I need to clean.
I was fired the same day, kinda lame of me, must say.
Guess that ventures aren't for me, they are making me feel sick.
Now I'm pity I'm not geek, otherwise I could've succeeded.
Could have done it, be delighted, but instead I'm here and fractured.

New study.

We're about to face new challenge in English study - new business course in our language school. Don't know exactly what it like, but I'm sure it will be as fun as others.

Hope to write few more "social talks"..

Underwater housing fail (and an attempt of camera repairment)

The first time I was in Egypt the idea of having a underwater housing for a camera didn't occur to me, so by the time I've got a chance to visit a decent sea I was prepared. I ordered a cheapest underwater case I could find to fit not the smallest lens of my Lumix TZ5.

First day I was shooting only pictures (not much to see). The second day I've tried to shoot a short movie, and that is what I've got:

- the truth that there's nothing to shoot (unlike the depths of Egyptian Red sea)
- decent underwater video. Here it is:

- and the fact that I need to do something with the water in my camera

I must admit that actually it was my mistake, because I somehow left underwater case not properly sealed before diving. I'm sure had it been rightly sealed it would've been watertight. But never mind.. just be careful.

Shown movie clip is only a half of the actual footage that I managed to repair from broken *.mov file (when water came in, I was still filming).

Funny thing.. I always wanted to disassemble my camera, and sadly I've got a reason to do so.

I remembered about necessity of capturing whole process when my old TZ5 was disassembled into pieces.

As far as I understood camera contains 4 or 5 lens, and only two of them are movable.

The actual sensor with one lens on it.

One of the boards with water corrupted sockets.

And the other one. Luckily breach was shortly identified, and battery pulled out on the spot. So there was little harm to majority of components.

Metal body seams to be undamaged at all. Just a little bit dirty.

Sophisticated, as for me, lens movement system, but I'm sure it's a typical one for such type of cameras.

Sockets soldering was damaged the most, and yet is has the least distance between legs. Tricky.

Flash capacitor. Nothing interesting.

Fully assembled lens. Turn it, snap it, click it, move it, then again, again and push it. I wonder who are those people who had the idea of such construction?

A lot of oxidized sockets. Solution? Cotton swab, alcohol, tiny needle and some sort of magnifier.

Density of components is quite impressive.

Card reader surrounded by a bunch of jacks.

Skeleton of a camera.

I didn't want to remove the screen, so here is just a photo of it's back.

One piece left (which is on the right)

Only top cover with the screen left.

Kinda ready. Lets try to switch it on...

It was the first time it launched after drowning, and it made me happy, but the stained from inside screen made me totally unhappy.

I was forced to completely disassemble the screen, I literally peeled it on the individual layers. Backlight, reflector, diffuser, other layers I don't know, the TFT screen itself and the protective layer.

Interesting.. would I be able to put it all together again? I was thinking, but nevertheless continuing to peel.

Some sort of diffuser.. I guess.

Due to complexity of screen inner structure I was unable to capture the whole process, and I'm afraid if I had tried, I wouldn't have fulfilled the task at all.

Now the screen works properly, alongside with the rest of the features.

Am I happy now? I guess yes, cause after all I peeked inside my camera, and I've still got it working.

Social Talk. Text 131.

(task: Is everybody suppose to be happy?)

In search of happiness.

Though happiness is an abstract and highly personal feeling, it can be depicted with just couple of words to have virtually the same meaning for the majority. Such words as joy and relief, safety and prosperity will determine the most of it, but having got all those feeling in one person in particular moment of time, he is starting to feel insufficiency of the rest which forms his own happiness. And that is where the problem origin is. Because once we have understood that we need more, we cannot just cherish a hope to be happy anymore. And what is weird, despite people have so much in common, we start to fight for our own dream, seeing nothing on our way. And when we're there, at our happinesses doorstep, we may find that we had picked it wrong. We're still in search, but those who were on the way will never come back, making our happiness less possible to find.

Social Talk. Text 123.

The one with the bleak life.

Have you ever been on a deserted road? If you had been, than you must have remembered those tremendous moments, when after climbing on a lonesome hill, which is standing in your way, you see it, great and mighty snake like road which has no end to find. There are some barely noticeable hills in the distance, and a tiny dot in a place where it's body bends over the skyline.

Have you ever had that special felling, that occurs only when knowing, that you are a sole person in any side back and forth till horizon, makes your sole feel totally free? Such emotion is a once in a lifetime experience, and I hope that you had memorized it well, cause who knows when, if ever, you might have such possibility again.

My final question will be simpler, yet harder to answer. Have you ever tried to find such road? Will you search it? To be completely free from everything at least for a moment. But before answering, I want you to think what could happen to you after that glorious moment. Would your life be the same after passing such emotional peak? Wouldn't it be bleak after that?

Social Talk. Text 121.

The one with fellow traveler.

Traveling, you might have noticed huge difference between short and a long distance trip, and what is interesting, it may have seemed that distance itself is more important, but in real life it is not. Our life obeys only strange and unpredictable rules of chaos, and if in a bus a guy, you are sitting with, is normal, be careful, the next ride, you might be accompanied by drunk man in a business suit or even worse, by a talkative annoying girl, whose problems can be a nightmare for any psychologist.

It seems to me, the greater the distance of a trip, the more important your fellow traveler is. 'Cause being annoyed is not what you want in a nineteen hour flight, hence you are waiting for a reasonable neighbor, who can be a nice interlocutor and who will be accepting to all problems you may encounter during flight.

All this matters only if I speak on my behalf. It's my own experience talking from inside, choosing whom it would have chosen if it had such possibility. But after all we're different, and it doesn't mean that something that applies to me will apply to you. But anyway I guess the best fellow traveler for anybody must be at least clean.

The one with trains.

..sitting in a moving train,
looking through it's windows glass
on a deep green valley's waving grass.
I am thinking could we've lost,
our future brightest gloss,
by inventing those machines,
which are powered by steam.

(~now)
In the years - nothing had changed,
we still traveling by train,
but the thing is - we are not
looking through the glass a lot.
Every person has it's own,
windows in computer phone,
which we're using not to watch,
something that sould have some worth,
but to hide our own small soul,
from the people, from unknown.

(~200 years after)
In the future we'll be like
certain mix from now and past.
Will be riding same steam trains,
but in space and not in vane
Now we trying to find out,
what it will be then, with ours,
precious soul that keen to travel,
keen to live and to enjoy.
Will we live in here forever,
or we're doomed to be destroyed?

Social Talk. Text 119.

The one with a way to be free.

Being an abstract fact and almost an illusion, freedom itself cannot be reached by so primitive creatures as we are, because of one mere fact, if it were possible, we would have got it by now, and there must have been some kind of institution with knowledge of how to be free, or, in case you're not, how to become one in a reasonable amount of time.

I guess you could have heard that being somebody else, besides ordinary human, you might have got a freedom you were so keen to get, but on the other hand, what you will get, will be a total and complete rearranging of your principles and life.

What actually would get you freedom nowadays, if you had wanted it so much, is strictly banned in every kind of society, therefore it's impossible, in my opinion of course, to be completely free, living in this world.

Our own mind is extremely powerful tool which, as you could have guessed, will crack, once being freed. You could imagine an atom, which ought to be a good source of energy in controlled environment, but at the time, the exact second you give complete freedom to it, you will see only demolition..

Social Talk. Text 118.

The one with beyond the time.

We are not lost, yet not we're found,
in the deserted vastness of surrounding.
Though we can hear each other clearly,
our tightness is decreasing firmly.

If we'd just been more wise and strong,
we wouldn't have to go from home.
To leave our lovely, precious planet,
which is about to be dead.

By filling it with filthy atoms,
we've forced the nature to react,
It split our planet core in halves,
and oxygen is running out..

Now, surfing through the space,
have made me think of time.
I know I've got a plenty,
but still I wish I wouldn't die.

The year was twenty thirty,
when it had made us run for lives.
Still can't believe we lost it,
our darling and beloved this time.

When I was scraping this on plate,
I knew my time had passed.
I died a million years ago,
but knowledge of my doom still lasts.

The one with not the right one.

Buying stuff at Ryan's store,
such as hummer, nails or saw.
Never would you feel so good.

Because having bunch of wood,
you intended to build smooth,
sturdy looking bridge with booth.

Which will make your friends to wonder,
how could you have done so quick,
wooden bridge like from boutique.

Seems to me, I have been wise,
you can say just once or twice,
buying tools on cheapest price.

Ryan's store is best to buy.
Any tools you would require,

He'll supply within the hour.

Decent tools for such low price,
nowadays cannot be found,
so hurry up, no more time left.

Social Talk. Text 116.

The one with London.

To know London means not only visit famous places, but also to travel though it tremendous sewer system, which is known to be the most long among all others, and has sophisticated, hence not completely discovered maze of tunnels, which could have been a shelter for those who were on run, but turnout to become a tomb for them.

Destination of such system, besides the obvious one, is to protect noble citizens from possible terror and to hide numerous secret artifacts which are supposed to be hidden from public sight for years.

Building five kilometer section of those sewers, during the first years of construction of the Big Ben, they'd managed to discover that city underneath has kept number of tunnels beyond any reasonable explanation.

Nowadays using sewers would be a great time saver, if intelligence opened public access to it. Because network of tunnels is ten times complex than an underground, and sometimes it's so wide that you can ride a car in it.

Notorious Wiki Leaks database has few maps of northern part of the sewer system, and many believe that strange marks on those maps were the real reason why WikiLeaks founder was arrested in a short time after publication.

I guess that living in a country, you should have tried to reveal its mysteries, at least to know that you live in a country full of legends and ancient history.

Social Talk. Text 115.

The one with forest tales.

Sometimes greetings could be funny,
said old rabbit to the bunny
north pole grey fox has it tricky,
lure you, treat you like her sweetie.

But the reason she's so kind -
she wants rabbit in stir fry,
with delicious red hot sauce,
instead greeting like she was.

Old and clumsy Teddy bear,
whose great roar is in the air,
would have eaten you at once,
if you'd gotten in his arms.

Having tasty meat is bad,
only troubles go from that.
Every single creature's foe.
Aren't safe away from home.

But today I've found a friend,
he is tall and has two legs,
lots of food is in his pockets,
and his greeting is superb!

Gave me a carrot - said stay still,
took few pictures by my will.
I suppose we're friends forever,
Human, me and photo camera.

The one with flaws.

Picking stuff you made a choice,
making it - commit your voice,
and committing, you suggest
make the same buy for a friend.

Friends are different, not the same,
could have bought it, couldn't they?
Could suggest thing for their friend,
who might hate it in the end.

Such a way of spreading stuff,
sharing, giving friend a link to that,
to be honest, has some flaws,
like the one you should have known.

By accepting others will,
you deny your own believe,
which can lead you in the end,
to a dead end of depend.

Social Talk. Text 113.

The one with electricity.

Sometimes I wonder, what could have happened, if I hadn't missed that meeting? It was an ordinary meeting with employer and it supposed to be informal. But that day everything went wrong. Having set my alarm clock to wake me up at nine, I completely forgot to specify that it had to be AM, but not PM, as used a day before that.

Of course I overslept. I thought that it had to be all my troubles for that day, but I was so wrong. Most awful day in my life had started. Searching for the phone, to reschedule my meeting, I accidentally crushed my girlfriends hamster, and cleaning the floor with from the mess done by insides of that terrible plastic toy, which I always hated, I must admit, I hooked a table leg with an elbow, which in the end made my phone fly to the pail of water I used to clean the floor.

I managed to leave home only in an hour, but horrible traffic jam made me get to a subway only in another hour. I knew what my possible employer might have felt waiting for me in the diner at the corner, but there was nothing I could have done to speed up my travel. When is was almost my stop to leave, there was another surprise for me, don't know whom to blame though, but North American power outage of 2003 was a great surprise for me back than.

Finally, when I had reached my destination point, I understood that I was one day late anyway, so there was no sense to hurry at all. Central Perk was empty and already closed.

Now sometimes I refer to this particular day as a greatest day of my life, cause I eventually joined The World Race, and become a Peace Corps member in a year because of it. I'm Stanley, it's my life, and I'm completely happy about it.

Social Talk. Text 112.

The one with the travel.

Travelling is what we are, not only because of modern explanation of travelling like a remedy from boredom, but because every single human on earth is where he is just because our ancestors used to travel a lot. Ancient nomadic tribes were wandering north to conquer new land and to be conquered by the others. Back then it was difficult to be a traveller, but many of them roamed further and further to be the only one in the neighbourhood.

Nowadays travelling can be as easy as taking a cab. The most difficult thing to choose is where you’re heading, east or west, Japan or Peru, and it doesn’t matter by train or by plane, by ship or hitchhiking. Now you can live a house with a million dollar in your pocket and reach only nearest inn in your trip, or you can catch a car with a handful of unknown currency in your bag and find yourself in Beijing in a month. It’s only up to you, if you dare do it or not.

Although our world of endless possibilities brings us a chance to travel virtually to every corner of our tiny planet, at the time it puts us in such a leeway, that most of us stopped even dreaming about seeing Pyramids, or catching a sunrise on Caribbeans. Now we’re tightly bound by hundreds and hundreds of various strings to our job, to our house, to our surrounding, which eventually knits itself into our tiny universe, our tiny cocoon, which we’re so keen to leave, but to afraid even to move.

Social Talk. Text 111.

The one with the long sentence.

Having bought a new device, you expect it to be flawless in every possible and impossible embodiment, but stubborn thing rejects your attempts of controlling it, thus making you regret buying it despite the fact you wanted to posses this particular device, which you consider, was the best solution of problems you've got recently, and making you angrier (at the same time) it makes you less confident in yourself due to the felling of regret itself, and continuing to reprove yourself for wrong purchase eventually might make you fell depressed, which is not surprise, considering what a pathetic person you should have been, if you'd agreed to buy this useless, not to say bad words, item, and it's needles to say that your current state is way worse than it was before, but on the other hand, it just could be a voice of regret speaking to you, spreading itself like a decease though your mind, making it numb and unreasonably inconsiderate about mere fact that you can refund your buy, and a thought of refunding makes you feel strong again, makes you understand that is you, whos control this device should have been afraid of before persisting your will, and that's why you'll refund it today, to be happy, or at least to increase you happiness by a fraction instead of ruining whole day, whole week, whole life, and I guess best solution for the future would be always to think twice before acting.
